CURRENT HIRING NEEDS AND GUIDELINES
The New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) hired more than 5,000 new teachers into the city’s public schools for the 2013-14 school year. At the present time, district public schools in NYC may hire external teachers (teachers not currently employed by the NYCDOE) in the following subject areas:

Early Childhood
Childhood/Common Branches
English
Mathematics
Middle School Generalist
Sciences
Social Studies
Special Education
Speech
Bilingual (all of the above licenses)
English as a Second Language
Physical Education and Health
Arts licenses including visual arts, MUSIC, theater and dance
Library
Most foreign languages including Spanish, Chinese, Latin and French

Other subjects may be hired on a case by case basis only

Application Deadlines
For the 2014-15 hiring season, the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (TRQ) has established the following deadlines:

Monday, June 30 – Final priority deadline of the season and the last chance for candidates who wish to receive our standard review process, New Teacher Finder consideration and related support from the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality.

PLEASE NOTE: Applications received after the June 30 deadline will only be reviewed on an as-needed basis, and we cannot guarantee additional support for candidates who apply after this point
